Gov. Mark Parkinson signed a bill Monday that recognizes the needs of kansas children and their families.
House Bill 2160 requires the Kansas State Employees Health Care Commission to cover services for the diagnosis and treatment of
autism spectrum disorder in any covered individual under 19 years old.“Autism is a serious condition in many children which requires continuous care and guidance,” Parkinson said. “Kansas families should not have to break the bank in order to ensure their autistic child can thrive. This legislation is a great beginning for putting us on a path toward providing coverage for autism in all health insurance
plans .”The bill stipulates that coverage must be provided in a manner determined between the autism services provider and the patient. Coverage will also be subject to the same annual deductibles and coinsurance provisions as established for other physical illness benefits.
